    Molybdenum: CNC custom machining and prototyping

    AC Manufacturing is a complete cnc machine shop capable of machining custom parts to customer specification (conventional and 5 axis machining). We can machine to print and accept the most common file formats including: .dwg .dxf .iges .step .sat as well as .pdf files. If you don't see your file format here let us know. Please send us files to: sales@acmanufacturing.com We can accept both small and large run jobs of custom machined parts.

    We provide Turning and Milling, 3 axis , 3+2 axis & continuous 5 axis machining).

    tungusten cnc milling Molybdenum is a chemical element with symbol Mo and atomic number 42. The name is from Neo-Latin molybdaenum, from Ancient Greek molybdos, meaning lead, since its ores were confused with lead ores. Molybdenum is a refractory metal that resembles tungsten in many respects. Its hardness, melting, and boiling temperatures are only slightly lower than those of tungsten are.

    Most molybdenum is used to make alloys. It is used in steel alloys to increase strength, hardness, electrical conductivity and resistance to corrosion and wear. These moly steel?alloys are used in parts of engines. Other alloys are used in heating elements, drills and saw blades.

    Molybdenum alloy
    s can be cnc machined by all of the common metal machining processes to achieve simple parts as well as very complex parts and shapes. The choice beetween high-speed steel and and sintered carbide (C2 Grade) tools depends largely on production quantities. It is worth to remember that tool life is shorter because molybdenum has tendency to chip while being mashined. It tends to break on the edges if tools become dull, which can be an issue since molybdenum is very abrasive.
    The versatility of molybdenum in enhancing a variety of alloy properties has ensured it a significant role in contemporary industrial technology, which increasingly requires materials that are serviceable under high stress, expanded temperature ranges, and highly corrosive environments. In its pure form, molybdenum is a silvery-grey metal with a Mohs hardness of 5.5. It has a melting point of 2,623 °C (4,753 °F); of the naturally occurring elements, only tantalum, osmium, rhenium, tungsten, and carbon have higher melting points. Weak oxidation of molybdenum starts at 300 °C (572 °F).

    We use 5 axis machines such as Haas UMC 750 and Haas VF-5SS as well as conventional milling equipment (Matsuura RA-1G, MC 500V PC 2S and MC-510 VG)

    TAbout 86% of molybdenum produced is used in metallurgy, with the rest used in chemical applications. The estimated global use is structural steel 35%, stainless steel 25%, chemicals 14%, tool & high-speed steels 9%, cast iron 6%, molybdenum elemental metal 6%, and superalloys 5%. Most high-strength steel alloys (for example, 41xx steels) contain 0.25% to 8% molybdenum.Even in these small portions, more than 43,000 tonnes of molybdenum are used each year in stainless steels, tool steels, cast irons, and high-temperature superalloys.

    Other applications for Molybdenum, include as a fertilizer, as X-ray source filaments, as a lubricant, as a semiconductor and a hydrocracking catalyst. In is also used in heating elements, as an adhesive, in soda glass and thin layer chromatography.
